Sail training in Narragansett Bay offers fast paced experience aboard small sailing craft, tall ships, and sailing yachts, and includes tall ships experience and hands-on operations aboard power vessels of varying sizes. Training will be conducted in association with the American Sail Training Association (ASTA), and will include various ports of call exploring maritime heritage, remote islands, and historic naval installations in and around Narrangansett Bay, the birthplace of the United States Navy. An understanding of the ecology and ecosystems of Narragansett Bay will be part of the program. Cadets will be billeted in Quonset Huts maintained by the Seabee Veterans of America at Quonset Point, RI.
Sail training is physically demanding and rigorous - to qualify cadets must be in excellent physical condition and exhibit a high degree of self discipline. This advanced training program puts extraordinary value on leadership and teamwork; the Cadet training contingent will be required to rapidly organize themselves into a working crew in this muscle-intensive activity. |
