Maritime Industrial Summer Training - 2008

Welding frame rails Qualified Sea Cadets can be selected for participation in the NSCC Maritime Industrial Summer Training Program. This rigorous and ambitious training exposes the Cadet to the wide variety of trades and crafts involved in the ship maintenance and construction industry, and Cadets should have an aptitude for industrial arts and be comfortable in a shipyard environment. Qualified Cadets should be a minimum of fourteen years of age, physically fit, and be prepared to investigate the marine trades as a potential career path when they graduate high school.

Maritime Industrial Training offers a unique opportunity to observe and learn much of the complex operations involved in the boatbuilding and ship repair industry. Many aspects of ship maintenance, repair, operations and safety ashore and afloat are incorporated into this training program. Cadets will learn about wood refinishing; hull preservation; engine maintenance and repair; sail, spar, mast and rigging operations; hauling out and refloating; and much more. Shore facilities and workspaces that we will visit encompass the length and breadth of Narragansett Bay, including Wickford Shipyard, the Southeast New England Shipbuilding Company, New England Boatworks, Blount Marine, Sea Tow R.I., the International Yacht Restoration School, Promet Shipyard, and more.

The cost for Maritime Industrial Training is $100 per Cadet. Cadets may elect to participate in multiple weeks. Questions on the training can be emailed to
