Soldier 101 Training, Camp Fogarty, RI
| Over the weekend of 25-26 November, 2006, Sea Cadets from NCBC Battalion and FALCON Division received fast-paced but intense training from four of their older counterparts from Norwich University. The men from Norwich, all upperclassmen in the university's Corps of Cadets and ROTC programs, elected to spend the remainder of their Thanksgiving holiday with the Sea Cadets during this training evolution. We are very grateful for this generous act from these gentlemen, and appreciate the support they received for this very complex training event from the university.
Note the use of 2x4 wooden blanks by the Cadets in the photos below. The emphasis on the training event was not on weapons, but on the ability to follow commands, to work together as a unit, to understand some very basic but often unnoticed tenets of human behavior, and to formulate plans and strategies using limited resources in a dynamic environment. In the process, the Cadets got a good introduction as to what Norwich University has to offer, once they leave high school and continue their education. In the discussion period that followed the field exercise, Cadets and their trainers discussed university life, the importance of time management and good study habits, financial aid for college, and what the lifestyle of the Norwich University Corps of Cadets was like.
