Ship Visit, USS PHILIPPINE SEA, Naval Station Newport
On Tuesday evening, 27 January 2009, NCBC Cadets gathered after school and traveled to Naval Station Newport to pay a visit to the guided missile cruiser USS PHILIPPINE SEA, in port for the week to support training exercises with the Surface Warfare Officers School. As guests of the crew, the Cadets visited many of the interior spaces of this warship, with the highlights including the ship's bridge, the Combat Information Center (CIC), the helicopter hangar deck, and ship's propulsion control stations. Cadets also stood with the crew for evening colors, paying no heed to the bitterly cold breeze coming off the fantail.
