On Saturday, 13 June 2009, NCBC Sea Cadets traveled to the Washington County Fair Grounds to participate and enjoy the annual Rhode Island Scottish Highland Festival - often simply called the Highland Games. Following a morning of activities that included amateur athletic competitions, highland dancing, music, country dancing, sampling Scottish foods, and shopping, the Cadets joined with the members of the Scottish American Military Society to assist with the formal ritual of retiring a collection of unserviceable American flags. The procedure, done with dignity and honor, followed the requirements specified in the United States Flag Code.
