On 3 May, 2008, NCBC Sea Cadets hosted a visit by two members of the Naval Operations Support Command (NOSC), Newport, who in turn presented the Cadets with the unique opportunity of hands on training in the fine art of ceremonial flag folding and honors. OS1 Doug Doxsee, Funeral Honors Coordinator for NOSC Newport, and EM2 Nancy Albro ran the Cadets through the very specific steps required for properly folding and unfolding the National Ensign during ceremonial functions. These types of ceremonies are typically solemn events, very significant and often having great impact on those bearing witness. The seriousness of this task is reflected in the faces of the four Cadets selected to perform this detail in training. The Cadets subsequently put this training to work the very next week, where they performed the flag folding ceremony to a standing room only crowd during the Armed Forces Salute concert by the Lafayette Band in North Kingstown (see the photos, below). The Cadets performed that task flawlessly during that event.
