Norwich University Cadet Visit
We kicked off our first drill evening of 2003 with a visit from Cadet Corporal Kevin Beal from Norwich University, the oldest private military college in the United States. C/CPL Beal regaled the Sea Cadets with a video and stories of college life and his experiences in the NU Corps of Cadets. C/CPL Beal spent the entire evening with NCBC Division, conducting a personnel inspection and assisting the senior Cadets in military drill exercises. Cadet Corporal Beal's message had particular impact to the Sea Cadets - prior to being accepted into Norwich University, he was the leading Petty Officer at the Sea Cadet unit at Newport, NETC Division. It quickly became obvious to the NCBC Cadets that this gentleman knew what he was talking about. Several Cadet parents observed the lecture given by C/CPL Beal with great interest; his previous experience as a Sea Cadet was directly responsible for scholarship assistance he was awarded upon acceptance into Norwich University. The significance of that incontrovertible fact was not lost on either parents or those Sea Cadets presently attending High School, where financial assistance for higher education is of high concern.
