JPK Weekend, Battleship Cove, 9-11 October 2009
|
The threat of inclement weather for the weekend proved to be an empty one, as NCBC Cadets joined with their shipmates from across New England for a very full program of shipboard training aboard the USS JOSEPH P. KENNEDY JR. (DD-850). The "Joey P.", a Gearing class destroyer maintained as a museum ship at Battleship Cove, Fall River MA, provided a most appropriate setting for training activities that included an introduction to ship systems, navigation & command and control, communications, and propulsion systems. Sea and League Cadets, many of whom had never had the opportunity to experience shipboard life at this level of interaction and detail, were enthralled with their experiences. By any measure, it was a superb Sea Cadet training weekend. The event was organized and hosted by the Sea Cadet unit Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Division, which is based aboard the ship.
